All of the material finishing methods are carried out by our specialised staff, thus ensuring their high quality as well as the saving of added value.
SawnIt is usually the first step within any production line. This finish leaves a smooth, very porous and rough surface. The stone gets a whitish, matt colour and is commonly scratches with the sawing tool mark. The most used tools are steel bands, steel wire, diamond wire or diamond disc.
PolishedA polished finish provides a smooth, shining surface, with almost no porosity, remarking the structure, colour and texture of the stone to the highest level. This finish closes up the pore and, therefore, provides the stone a higher resistance to the attack of external agents. The polished finish comes as a result of submitting the stone to abrasion, passing through steadily decreasing grain dimensions which confer a shining look to the stone. At present, diamond abrasive agents are used to get this finish
BushhammeredThis method gives the stone a rough, homogeneous surface, with small equally-spread points. A bushhammered finish can be fine or deep, depending on the number and size of the bushes as well as the power and the number of repeated sessions provided. Automatic machines with pneumatic hammers and automatic trolleys are used in order to create plates or large surfaces.
FlamedThis method can be regarded as that exclusive to granite. It provides a rustic, rough with a certain relief, vitrified look. The process consists of applying high temperatures with oxiacetylene lighters and the later detachment of little slabs or splinters without leaving burns on the stone. Thus, it achieves a high degree of protection against climatic agents.
HonedA honed finish provides a smooth, matt surface. It can be regarded as the step prior to polishing. This method of finish is used in compact stones with a low degree of hardness. Likewise, the finish is achieved by means of abrasion.
SandblastedIt can be regarded as a small bushhammered finishing method due to the similar features of the above mentioned method. The sandblasting process consists of hitting the surface with silica sand or corindon, expelled through a nozzle that spread the sand on the stone. Depending on the pressure, the stone will feature a deeper pointed look, always remarking its colour
Other Types of FinishOther types of finish can be created by the different use of the above mentioned method. A clear example may be the combination of polished areas with sandblasted, bushammered of scratched areas. |
